CCRI organizes World Earth Day 2022 as a part of  Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav

The Climate Change Research Institute organized World Earth Day on the theme “Climate Action” as a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav and celebrated the event on 26th April 2022 in virtual mode. Mr Neeraj Gupta, Ex-AGM, NPCC and member CCRI delivered opening remarks on the genesis of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, and countrywide campaigns being launched. Dr (Mrs) Malti Goel President, CCRI said that it is a unique event in this year and extended welcome to all participants. She said CCRI has been founded with a vision to promote understanding of climate change, mentoring and developing human resources for finding scientific solutions. It has an important role in the nation development and we have conducted many such workshops. Climate Action aims to reduce accumulation of greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere and reduce carbon footprints. She gave the background and genesis of World Earth Day and its importance in times of climate change emergency. World Earth Day empowers youth with the information, tools and messaging to make impact and drive change. Earth Day which started in 1970, reminds us every year that we should take care of our planet Earth; its soil, water, air and living beings. The theme this year is ‘Invest in Our Planet’. The quote ‘’every day is Earth Day if we start investing in a secure climate future” has been stated rightly.

Mrs Maya Gupa, Director-Principal UPS delivered special address on India’s cultural ethos and strengths in the context of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. In her inspirational address to youth, she quoted from Shri Modi ji, Prime Minster of India and told was a Vishwaguru. By imbibing our cultural roots children can help India to become Vishwaguru again and a World Superpower. This was followed by the Guest lecture by a young researcher Mr. Vipin Kumar Sharma, IIT Tirupati & Additional Superintendent, UCIL (DAE on ‘Climate Action through CO2 Capture in Nuclear & Materials Industry’. Giving insights into world energy growth, and nuclear energy developments in India, Vipin Sharma described his research on Uranium extraction from the minerals and the importance of carbon capture in the process development. His presentation can be seen here. Mr Neeraj Gupta gave a vote of thanks. He profusely thanked the speakers and all participants. Experts in carbon capture research, students from UPS, community members and members of Governing Council and Executive Committee of CCRI, youth were present during the program.
