Book Release on Climate Change

The book is edited by Malti Goel, Former Adviser and Senior Scientist, Ministry of Science & Technology; M. Sudhakar, Advisor/Scientist 'G', Ministry of Earth Sciences; R. V. Shahi, CMD Energy Infratech & Former Secretary, Minister of Power; Government of India, and is published by TERI Press.

The book was released in Rail Bhawan on 20. 1. 2015 by Hon. Minister for Railways, Govt. of India, attended by Senior Government officials, bureaucrats and industrialists.  

Dr. Malti Goel informed that the book is Proceedings of the Capacity Building workshop held in New Delhi by Climate Change Research Institute during 15-19 January 2013. This national level workshop was supported by Ministry of Earth Sciences. Explaining the concept of carbon capture she said that carbon capture and storage (CCS) is among the advanced energy technologies suggested to make the conventional fossil fuel sources environmentally sustainable. It is of particular importance to coal-based economies. The book deals with mitigating climate change that is arising out of carbon emissions in the atmosphere. It covers various aspects of carbon dioxide capture, its utilization and takes a closer look at the earth processes in carbon dioxide storage in its three sections namely; Policy, CCS and CO2 Fixation & Utilization. In all there are 17 Chapters.

Shri R.V. Shahi while introducing the book said that even though the carbon capture and storage technology might take some time to be cost-effective, it is important that Indian coal consuming industry becomes responsive towards research and technology development for it to be a long-term solution to climate change.

Top officials from Power Industry including CMD, NTPC and Senior Scientists & Officials from Ministries of Earth Sciences and Science & Technology participated on this occasion. TERI Press, committed forwards finding innovative solutions prepared for the event.
