Invited to ENERXIA - The Renewable Energy Fest at Energy Club, Assam Engineering College, Guwahati on 26th & 27th March, 2016

Dr. (Mrs.) Malti Goel, President, Climate Change Research Institute was invited to the Panel Discussion in ENERXIA on the topic “COP 21 and After: Action Plan of and for India, with special reference to North-East India” in the first renewable energy fest of Northeast India. The event was organized by Assam Engineering College on 26th and 27th March, 2016 at Gauhati. The Prime Objective of ENERXIA was to provide a platform for the exchange of ideas and goal by people from different walks of life to generate awareness and concern about the regional as well as global energy issues.

 

Assam Engineering College is the first engineering college of North-East India, established in the year 1955. As a pioneer institute in the technical education sector of the region, the college takes pride in bringing forth this unique event encapsulating various attractions for students, scholars, members from industry and also the general public. The event was conceived by Energy Club of the Assam Engineering College as an interactive programme of Exhibitions, Panel Discussions, Conferences, Energy Entrepreneurship conclave and a number of students’ competitions.

 

Dr. Mridul Hazarika, Vice Chancellor, Gauhati University inaugurated the ENERXIA and in his inspiring speech, he said that renewable energy resources hold great promise for meeting the energy and development needs for nations throughout the world. He motivated and encouraged the students to take active part in developing technical skills. Dr. Malti Goel also addressed the students in the Inaugural session and commended this as a unique way of creating awareness about energy and environment concerns. Paris Agreement made in COP21 has thrown a great challenge for the nations to fulfil their Nationally Determined Commitments for saving the Planet. North Eastern region rich in forests can take several initiatives for carbon management by application of renewable energy as well as forest management.

 

It is hoped that more such events are held in future and there is lively participation through practical demonstrations for both urban and rural areas.
