Guest Lecture in Environment and Earth Care series by Dr. M. Sudhakar, Director, CMLRE, Cochin on ‘Conservation and Sustainability of Biological Resources on the Planet Earth: Present and Future’

The Climate Change Research Institute organized World Earth Day n on April 25, 2019 at India International Centre, New Delhi, attended by about 50 children from different schools in Delhi. Dr. (Mrs.) Malti Goel, Chief Executive and President, CCRI spoke on Global Warming and its relation to the World Earth Day theme on ‘Protect Our Species’. She said we have organized an Essay Competition among students from class X-XII from different schools in Delhi to express our concerns for the need of improving our Air Quality. Chief Guest Prof. D. P. Agrawal in his motivational address said that nature’s gifts to our planet are the millions of species that we know and love, and we need to take care of ‘Mother Earth’ and its species, which are facing the danger of Climate Change. Guest of Honor Dr. M. Sudhakar, Director, Centre for Marine Living Resources and Ecology (CMLRE), Cochin delivered the EEC lecture on Conservation and Sustainability of Biological Resources on the Planet Earth: Present and Future. He said India with its vast ocean resources has initiated steps to come to a global agreement of marine living resources to protect our species. Students were enthralled and listened with rapt attention.

Bulletin Climate SAR on ‘Plastic Pollution and Climate Change’ Vol.5, No.2- published by CCRI was released on this occasion. Dr. M. Sudhakar presented a copy of the book on TAXONOMIC DISCOVERIES FROM NORTHERN INDIAN OCEAN, Eds. M. Sudhakar et al. to Dr. (Mrs.) Malti Goel, CCRI.

This was followed by rapid snap-shot of 3 minutes presentation by students from participating schools in the Essay Writing Competition on ‘Environment in Delhi’. The participating schools viz Universal Public School, Preet Vihar; Navyug School, Laxmi Bai Nagar and Navyug School, Moti Bagh have conducted in-house competition and submitted three best entries to CCRI for evaluation. A Jury evaluated all the written essays entry which were received confidentially and also the presentation made by the students. The results of the competition were announced by Mr. L.K. Bansal, Treasurer, CCRI and Head, Jury. 1st, 2nd, 3rd awards (Winners) and consolation prizes were given away to students. The Institute also distributed WWF Badges and Certificates to all students who attended from different schools. Mr. Adtiya Sharma from CCRI compered the event and Mr. Neeraj Gupta presented the Vote of thanks. The Institutes facilitated Guests and Participating teachers, on this occasion.
